Nkoranza chaos: Police identified deceased suspect through laptop left at robbery scene

It has emerged that Police officers who had been called to a robbery scene at Nkoranza identified the now deceased suspect Albert Donkor through a laptop he and his alleged gang had left at the crime scene as they fled.

Sources close to the development have told Starrfm.com.gh, the deceased had allegedly returned to the crime scene on a motorbike to pick up the laptop and other weapons left during the robbery.

“He returned to the scene on a motorbike and in a sweater for the laptop and other things they left there but when he got there, he met the Police with the victims on the road. He approached them and said he could help track the suspects since he was from the town and knows a few leads. He then left the scene on his back

“When he left the scene, the regional intelligence unit which had come to augment the local police had combed the crime scene and found the laptop which had his picture as home screen, phone decoding software and other plots. The local police officers identified the deceased suspect through the picture on the laptop. The Police quickly stormed his home around 2am and met him awake. They confronted him with the evidence on the laptop and claims of the victims upon which he told the Police he was also a victim of the robbery but managed to escape. The Police then whisked him away in the hope of him helping trace the other suspects,” the source told Starr News.

It is however unclear the circumstances leading to the death of the suspect.

The Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has however sent a high powered Police delegation to the area to probe the events leading to the death of the deceased after speaking to his family.

Relatives of the deceased have rejected claims he was involved in wrong doing.

Meanwhile, calm has returned to the area after some youth in the town rampaged over the incident. The rioting youth invaded the Nkoranza Police station and freed suspects. The suspects have been rearrested by the Police.
