Ghana’s Abraham Seaneke earns World Athletics Championships place

Abraham Seaneke, a Ghanaian long jumper, has earned a place in the World Athletics Championships after getting a new personal best of 8.22m (+2.0m/s) at the ECC/ Club Outdoor competition in the United States.

The achievement means he will also participate in the Commonwealth Games which will begin in 28th July, four days after the World Athletics Championships come to an end.

The former student of West Texas A&M University and the University of Ghana got the job done on his second attempt in the competition.

His number is the second in all-time Ghana long jump records, just behind that of Ignisious Gaisah who recorded 8.43m (-0.2m/s) in 2006.

The number of individual athletes who have booked places in the World Championships have now risen to four. Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah (both sprinters) and female long jumper Deborah Acquah have already booked places in the showdown.

The men’s 4*100 relay team will also participate in the World Athletics Championships.

The World Championships will take place from July 15-25 in Eugene, Oregon, United States while the Commonwealth Games are set to take place from July 28-8 August 2022 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
