Police goes to court over ‘Arise Ghana’ night demo, Jubilee House picketing

The Police have dragged the organisers of Arise Ghana to court over the group’s planned demonstration.

The leadership of  Arise Ghana had notified the Police of its intention to hold its demonstration in the capital, Accra for two continuous days and for its members to also picket in front of the Jubilee House during the night.

The Police, in a letter dated June 13, 2022, responded and urged that in order to adequately ensure the safety of demonstrators and other members of the public, the demonstration should not travel into the night.

But the group failed to agree to the Police’s directive on the modalities of that protest compelling the Police to go to court.

“Due to the lack of agreement between the Police and the organisers on the time for the demonstration and location for their planned picketing, the Police have had no option but to submit the process to the court for a determination, a statement by the Police signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent Grace Ansah-Akrofi said on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

The Police in its statement further assured the organisers and the public in general of its readiness to provide security for the demonstration once the matter is determined by the court.

The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow Monday, June 27, 2022.
