The former Central Regional 1st Vice-Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ekow Ewusi, has called for reforms and re-engineering of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) as a means of curbing unemployment in the country.
He said economic growth depends on quality workforce of skills development in the country’s development agenda.
Mr Ewusi said though TVET plays a very important role in the development agenda, little attention has been paid to it.

He said unemployment rates in Ghana are worrying and it is time government committed more resources and logistics to TVET development.
Mr Ewusi disclosed this when Ekow Ewusi Foundation donated 167 sewing machines and hair dryers to the people of Cape Coast North Constituency with the aim to reduce unemployment.
“It is my social responsibility to give something to the community,” he said.
“As we all are aware not just Ghana, all over the world, unemployment rating [in] every country is rising and Ghana is not an exception. Cape Coast too is not an exception. We have youth that have completed schools and they want to acquire skills, even the money to start that training is a problem.
“I told myself not everything do we have to depend on government. As a citizen of Cape Coast North Constituency I decided to support and my relationship and interactions with constituency executives led Chairman Arhin, I am presenting these machines for the people of Cape Coast North at least to learn something to reduce unemployment rates.”
He further indicated that any developed country in the world focused more on hand works and if the government wants to reduce the unemployment situation, the government must try to re-introduce craft and arts subject to schools.

Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, the NPP Chairman for Cape Coast North Constituency, Stephen Kojo Arhin, said it’s very good Ekow Ewusi has planned to help to curb the unemployment situation in the constituency through the current executives.
“These machines have come at the right time because most parents in communities find it very difficult to get an amount of money to purchase these types of machines for their children to train.
He believes the donation will pave more way for party supporters to donate to help the youth.
He further urged the constituency secretary, Emmanuel Ebo Saba and other executives to ensure the items are safe in the right hands.
