Their performances covered the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade and the one-day meeting circuits.

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan won the 100m Hurdles at the African Athletics Championships before going on to break the world record at Oregon 2022.

She, however, faces tough competition from other female athletes who put up outstanding performances at the Worlds.

One is USA’s Sydney McLaughlin, who broke the world record in 400m hurdles in front of home fans.

The others are Chase Ealey (USA), Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica), Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine), Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Bahamas), Kimberly Garcia (Peru) and Yulimar Rojas, the Venezuelan who cannot stop improving her records in triple jump.

The nominees will be shortlisted to five before the winners are announced in December.
