Political strategist and a Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic (NPP) Ernest Owusu Bempah has rubbished claims that Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, daughter of President Nana Addo Dankwa is taking undue advantage of her father to grab juicy government contract.
It has been alleged in some quarters that the state paid her $25 million Gyankroma Akufo-Addo to paint parts of the nation capital, Accra.
But in a statement, Mr Owusu Bempah said even if it is true, she is qualified as a private businessman women to undertake the project.
“As we can all see, it is not unusual for the children of head of states to go into private business.
“Edwina is being maligned simply because she happens to be the daughter of the President. I really don’t see what’s wrong in the president’s daughter owning a business.
“We are talking about a woman with several years of private sector experience. Yes, her business career did not begin today. It is therefore patently ridiculous to say she can’t do business simply because her father happens to be the president of the Republic. Edwina Akufo-Addo is a very well educated lady with business interest in diverse fields. She’s qualify to manage a restaurant and any other business for that matter.
“Why is it that all the time we expect foreign investors to come and invest in our economy but are quick to destroy our own? Is Edwina’s restaurant or business not going to create employment and tourist earnings? There’s clearly a targeting of Edwina’s brand, and there’s clearly efforts to undermine that name based on her father’s position as president.”
Meanwhile Gyankorama has served notice to sue person making the allegation against her.
In a statement, however, Ms Gyankroma said: “For the avoidance of any doubt, it is important to state that these projects were solely conceived, managed, and financially undertaken by The Creative Arts Agency, through its own fundraising activities.”
“The absurdity of $25 million or any amount for that matter, being awarded to myself to undertake this project, is a disgusting narrative”.
“It is a complete fabrication being propagated by some shameless persons, and which, unfortunately, has been published by sections of the media”.
“This project was not embarked upon to make profit, and there have been no lucrative contracts awarded for it,” she noted in the statement on Wednesday, 2 November 2022, adding: “All efforts to undermine my credibility through the publication of these falsehoods and baseless lies, will not wash”
“I have instructed my lawyer to seek redress in the law courts against persons and media houses that published these falsehoods with the sole intention of destroying my reputation,” she said.
