Gospel music today is not message-driven – Rev Paa Boateng

Ghanaian gospel sensation Rev Paa Boateng has observed that many Ghanaian gospel artistes do not consult time-tested gospel artistes, hence not getting message-driven songs.

Music pundits over the years have hit hard at most gospel musicians, blaming them for veering off from the traditional message-driven gospel music to sensationalism and hit songs.

Speaking on the issue on Akoma FM‘s Saturday flagship entertainment programme Entertainment 360 hosted by Tony Best, Brussels-based Minister of the Gospel Rev Paa Boateng opined that he is not against artistes having their music making great strides but they must seek the counsel of those who can help them with quality message songs.

“The greatest wish of every artiste is to have his/her music doing well and getting the needed popularity. However, the song must first carry a message, closely linked with the gospel but the current gospel songs lack such depth.

“I was able to release hit and message-driven songs because they were written by knowledgeable individuals like Osuani Afrifa, Nana Boateng and Archimides but most gospel artistes today are not doing such, just putting anything out for public consumption.”

The ‘Nhyira Bere’ hitmaker is currently promoting his single with the title ‘Mame Ndi Nkunim’.
