Your Allegations Are Baseless, Shocking”~~~ Bekwai MCE To ‘Selfish’ Assembly Members

The Municipal Chief Executive for Bekwai municipality in the Ashanti region, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour has expressed shock and dismay about accusations on disrespect and incompetent made against him by some few assembly members at the assembly.

The MCE described such allegations as lies, fabricated and baseless charges in an attempt just to agitate to achieve their personal interest.

The municipal Chief executive speaking on Koforidua-based Afeema FM on Tuesday, 7, was responding to allegation of charges made against him by some assembly members numbering about 4 out of 34 assembly members in the municipality.

The accusers sought to impeach the Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour, due to what they described as disrespect towards them because he made them stranded and hostile on the independence day on Monday 6th March.

According to them the conduct of the MCE towards the technocrats and coordination with the assembly members is nothing to write home about, causing delays in decision-making and implementation of development projects in the municipality.

The Assembly Members have therefore cited these and other reasons to fast track impeachment process through ‘Vote Of No Confidence’ against Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour.

However, reacting to the allegations, the MCE insisted that he has a good relationship records with the Assembly members including all the civil servants of the assembly through sponsoring most of their activities.

“Yesterday, after the independence day celebration, I hosted some prominent chiefs who graced the occasion so i couldn’t join my assembly members to celebrate but i gave them gh¢2,000 from my own puckett for them to use it for chilling. This is not to say I disrespected them” he said.

The MCE for Bekwai said he was overwhelmed with huge endorsement by the assembly members as they declared their unflinching support to continue his work of implementation of policies and programmes to benefit the area.

Hon Kyei Baffour emphasized that since he assumed office, he has visited almost all the communities in Bekwai to interact with chiefs, opinion leaders and others to know their problems and help find lasting solutions to them.

The MCE said, Assembly Members play an essential role in decision making process at the District Assembly level, therefore the role of the Assembly Members in local Government process cannot be over emphasized.

He therefore charged them to serve the people within their electoral areas with humility, adding, they should not use their position to engage in act that will impugn on integrity of the Assembly as they work hand in hand, together for the betterment of the Municipality.
