I hope Grammy recognition’ll change perception of Highlife as ‘old people music’ – Naana Blu

Naana Blu, the talented singer renowned for her captivating highlife music, is optimistic that Grammy recognition will revolutionise the perception of highlife among Ghanaian youth.

Often regarded as “old people music,” highlife has struggled to resonate with younger generations. However, with its inclusion in the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards, Naana Blu believes that the younger generation will start embracing highlife as a genre for everyone.

Naana Blu has personally experienced criticism from prominent figures in the Ghanaian music industry for pursuing highlife music. However, she hopes that the endorsement from the Grammys will put an end to the disparaging remarks she has faced.

She believes that Ghanaians tend to value things more when they receive international recognition, and she hopes that this recognition will encourage the majority of Ghanaian youth to appreciate and support highlife music.
