The incident came to light after a tragic shooting incident at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) office in Savelugu, resulting in the unfortunate death of a young girl.

On Wednesday, 9 December 2020, police in the Northern Region responded to gunshots that claimed one life in the Savelugu constituency and subsequently conducted a raid at the NDC party office in the area.

During the search, an AK-47 rifle and 60 rounds of ammunition were discovered leading to the suspicion that these firearms might have been used in the crime.

The Savelugu MP, was subsequently arrested and has been standing trial since then.

In March 2023, the Tamale High Court issued a bench warrant for the MP’s arrest due to his failure to appear before the court since 2020. However, the recent proceedings on Monday, 31 July 2023, saw the MP acquitted on all charges brought against him.
