George Afriyie secures injunction on GFA elections

George Afriyie, a presidential aspirant for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has successfully obtained an injunction on the GFA presidential elections scheduled for October 12, 2023.

This follows his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

This move comes shortly after the GFA Elections Appeals Committee upheld Afriyie’s disqualification from participating in the elections.

Originally, this year’s GFA Presidential race was set to be a two-way contest between Afriyie and the incumbent GFA President, Kurt Okraku.

However, with Afriyie’s disqualification upheld, Okraku was poised to run unopposed. The GFA congress, initially planned for October 5, 2023, was also postponed due to a court-ordered adjournment related to a dispute between King Faisal Football Club and the football governing body.

This recent development has left the elections in a state of uncertainty, leaving stakeholders and the public awaiting further decisions and clarity regarding the presidential race.
