NPP engages Nigeria’s APC on fostering good governance in West Africa

The National Chairman of Ghana’s governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Stephen Ntim, led a delegation to engage in discussions with the leadership of Nigeria’s All-Progressives Congress (APC) on fostering good governance in the West Africa region.

Accompanied by the NPP’s National Treasurer, Dr. Charles Dwamena, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa, Mr. Ntim met with Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Mr Ganduje deemed the visit as a crucial step in enhancing the already amicable relationship between the NPP and APC.

During the talks, Mr Ganduje emphasised that a robust foundation of good governance in West Africa is vital for empowering the people to resist potential military interventions, extending beyond those witnessed in Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and Niger.

Highlighting the enduring relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, Ganduje acknowledged the common colonial past and shared official language, English, between the two nations.

He expressed the significance of such visits in exchanging ideas to deliver good governance and mitigate the recent tide of military interventions.

Mr. Ntim commended the partnership between NPP and APC, congratulating Ganduje on his election as APC national chairman and extending well wishes to Nigeria on its 63rd independence anniversary. He conveyed that the purpose of the NPP delegation’s visit was to initiate collaboration between APC and NPP in enhancing good governance for their citizens.

Pointing to the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Ghana, Ntim highlighted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s frequent visits to Nigeria since 2017, underlining the depth of the bond between the two countries.

“We are happy and proud to be sharing this day with you. It signals greater days ahead, and we hope you will want to reciprocate this visit. As a party, we have a lot to learn from Ganduje as an individual and from the APC as a political party,” remarked Mr. Stephen Ntim.
