President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament to formulate concrete proposals aimed at assisting governments throughout West Africa in addressing the growing threats of insecurity and coups d’état.
President Akufo-Addo emphasised the importance of identifying the root causes of military uprisings to better equip the sub-region in tackling the recent security challenges that have posed a threat to the peaceful democracies within the ECOWAS bloc.
Speaking at the 2nd ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar held in Winneba, in the Central Region, President Akufo-Addo stressed that the entire African continent must not regress on its democratic values.
He highlighted the need for brainstorming sessions during the seminar to address the major challenges posed by political insecurity in the region and to propose effective solutions.
“One of the expected outcomes is to help us understand even better the root causes of democratic regression and political instability in the region in order to better address them,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
