Ex-Hearts of Oak coach Koopman is immature and bitter – Dr Nyaho Tamakloe

Hearts of Oak board member, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, strongly criticised former coach Martin Koopman, branding him as ‘immature, frustrated, and bitter.’

The former Ghana Football Association Chairman was responding to Koopman’s accusations that the board interfered with his coaching decisions and dictated player selections.

He refuted Koopman’s claims, stating as reported by Ghanasoccernet, “When they [Koopman and Rene Hiddink] came, we decided to allow them to work without any interference.”

He dismissed Koopman’s assertion that certain players were forced out, insisting that Koopman had made those decisions independently.

“They said they couldn’t work with some of the boys, and those he mentioned were players he sorted out himself and virtually asked them to leave the team because he said they were not up to standard.”

“He is immature, frustrated, and bitter, he is a complete liar because of all the names he mentioned one can check from the Ghana Football Association or even our records to see whether they have not been featured since he came,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe countered.

“If as a coach you have realized that the wingers are not good, you train them, but you don’t complain. You don’t come out and lie to the media that the board doesn’t want you to use certain players. That’s not professionalism,” he added.

Koopman was dismissed 10 games into the season, with Hearts of Oak recording just two wins. Despite his departure, the team’s performance has not significantly improved, facing setbacks in the MTN FA Cup and a recent defeat at Aduana FC. They are set to play arch-rivals Kotoko in Kumasi on Sunday.
