ECG goes after customers consuming power for free

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has served notice that it will start what it calls ‘Operation No Free Consumption’ effective Thursday, 1st February, to Friday, 16th February, 2024.

The target of this exercise is customers who are consuming electricity without paying for it.

This is contained in a public notice sighted by 3news on January 31.

“During this exercise, ECG teams will, among others, be on the field to undertake the following activities: Update customer details (phone numbers, GPS addresses, etc.), Collect any arrears and disconnect for non-payment of arrears, Pick pictorial readings of all postpaid meters with our new meter reading electronic device (Zeus Mobile device), and Capture/regularize all SHEP/non-ECG meters on our Zeus mobile device for customers to pay the regularization fee,” part of the notice reads

The ECG said, “In view of this exercise, the Regional and District offices will operate with a lean staff pool who will provide essential services to customers during this period.”
