Finance Minister to appear before Parliament on National Cathedral project expenditure

The Minister for Finance is scheduled to appear before Parliament this Wednesday, July 3, 2024, to address an urgent question from Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei on the expenditure of the National Cathedral project.

According to Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minister will be asked to provide details on the expenditure for the National Cathedral project and whether a value-for-money audit has been conducted.

Deputy Majority Leader Appiagyei has insisted on the Minister’s appearance to ensure transparency regarding the use of public funds for the National Cathedral.

The Minister is expected to provide comprehensive information on the project’s finances and confirm if a value-for-money audit has been carried out to guarantee accountability and transparency.

This announcement was made by Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin on the floor of Parliament earlier on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Even before the Finance Minister’s appearance, the Minority is demanding broader accountability from the government.

MP for North Tongu Constituency, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on the Speaker to enforce the House’s decision to form a bipartisan committee to probe the issues surrounding the project.
