Samson Asaki Awingobit has officially declared his candidacy for the National Chairmanship position of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
The elections is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 31 August 2024.
Mr. Awingobit’s media aide on Wednesday, 14 August 2024, along with key party executives, picked up his nomination forms at the PNC Headquarters in Accra, signalling his intent to contest the top position.
His decision to run for National Chairman is contingent on the party’s nomination process, which has now officially commenced.
Mr. Awingobit, who has risen from humble beginnings to become a prominent figure in Ghana’s sociopolitical landscape, is no stranger to the political arena.
He previously contested as the PNC’s parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman in 2008 and ran for the party’s flagbearership in 2020, where he emerged as the runner-up to David Apasera.
In a statement, Mr. Awingobit emphasised his commitment to the principles of open competition and fair play, which he believes are essential to the PNC’s internal election campaign.
Mr. Awingobit, who brings a wealth of experience from his background in trade and entrepreneurship, is confident that his skills and vision align with the PNC’s objectives.
He is set to launch a nationwide campaign in the coming days, seeking to engage with party members and build support for his bid to become National Chairman.
