2024 Elections: We’re moving forward, we’re not going back to the era of stagnation & non-performance – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed optimism that his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the 2024 general elections.

The President, speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the expansion of the Tema Motorway Monday, August 26, 2024, stated that there is none better than Bawumia to lead the nation after his term ends.

President Akufo-Addo is confident Bawumia will be able to consolidate the gina so this administration

“We are going forward. We are not going back to the era of stagnation and non-performance. We are going forward with [Dr. Mahamudu] Bawumia to a better, more inclusive and more prosperous Ghana,” he stated.

President Akufo-Addo further said that the Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Project marked a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to modernize Ghana’s infrastructure and ensure that our nation remains competitive in the 21st century.

He stated that originally commissioned in 1965 by Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, the Accra-Tema Motorway has been a vital artery for nearly six decades, carrying an average of 45,000 vehicles daily.

Now, the time has come to renew this legacy, and ensure it continues to serve the people of Ghana for generations to come, he said.

The Accra-Tema Motorway Expansion Project is a pioneering initiative, being the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the history of Ghana’s road infrastructure.

“By bringing together the expertise and resources of both the public and private sectors, with the strategic backing of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), we are setting a new standard for infrastructure development in our country. This PPP model will ensure efficiency, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility, delivering world-class infrastructure while protecting the interests of the Ghanaian people,” Mr Akufo-Addo wrote on Facebook.

This project, he said, is being executed in three sections, with the first phase covering the Accra-Tema Motorway Roundabout to the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.

“This section is crucial for enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic growth,” he said.

He added “Alongside this, my government is actively advancing several other significant infrastructure projects, including the dualization of the Santasi-Ahiakwanta Road, the Adenta-Dodowa Road, the Kasoa-Winneba Road, and the Takoradi-Agona Junction Road. These projects, funded by the Government of Ghana and the African Development Bank, are designed to improve travel times and reduce vehicle operating costs.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to the officials and professionals from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Attorney General, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, and their consultants, whose tireless efforts have made this moment possible. I am particularly proud that the contractor for the first phase of this project is M/S Maripoma Enterprise Ltd., a wholly Ghanaian-owned company. This is a testament to the capability and ingenuity of our domestic enterprises. Together, we are building a modern, prosperous, and connected Ghana.”
