The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for including dialogue in its 2024 manifesto for the upcoming general elections.
GNAT praised the NDC’s commitment to engaging with stakeholders on economic issues to develop a home-grown policy for the country’s development.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s 6:00 am news on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, GNAT’s General Secretary, Mr. Thomas Musah, emphasized the importance of dialogue in addressing the country’s challenges.
He highlighted that the International Labour Organization (ILO) has long advocated for member states to establish tripartite committees to sustain dialogue between governments, employers, and workers.
“As members of GNAT, we support the NDC’s decision to engage in dialogue with stakeholders to refine policies and programmes,” Mr. Musah said.
He noted that GNAT has consistently called for dialogue on the government’s Free Senior High School programme to fine-tune the policy, but that call has not yet been heeded.
He expressed optimism about the NDC’s approach, adding, “It’s welcoming news when a party includes dialogue as part of its manifesto for the upcoming elections.”
