Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a generous donation of N105 million to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State. The donation was made during a Sunday service, where the internationally acclaimed artist expressed gratitude for the church’s unwavering support throughout his life and career.
In a heartfelt address to the congregation, Rema emphasized that his gesture was not about seeking recognition but about giving glory to God. “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit,” he said in a now-viral video.
Rema outlined the specific allocations of his donation: N40 million is pledged towards the church’s infrastructure, N20 million to the distribution of Rhapsody of Realities, and another N25 million to the infrastructure of the church’s teen ministry, from which he graduated. Additionally, he committed N20 million to support widows within the church community.
The singer also took the opportunity to share a deeply personal story about the church’s role in supporting his family after the passing of his father when he was just eight years old. “When I was eight years old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. I remember at the time, Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, and that was what she managed to take care of us,” Rema recounted, highlighting the church’s crucial assistance during a difficult period in his life.
Rema’s donation has sparked widespread admiration on social media, with fans and fellow artists praising his generosity and commitment to his faith. The act of giving back to the church that supported him in his youth has further endeared the young artist to his fans, solidifying his reputation as not just a musical talent but also a person of deep gratitude and humility.
