Antoine Griezmann retires from international football

French star Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.

In a heartfelt video shared on social media, he reflected on his decade-long journey with the national team, stating, “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure and see you soon”.

Griezmann’s illustrious career with Les Bleus includes 137 appearances and 44 goals, making him the fourth-highest scorer in French history.

He played a pivotal role in France’s triumph at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he scored four goals and assisted four others, including a crucial penalty in the final against Croatia. His contributions also helped France secure the UEFA Nations League title in 2021.

His last appearance for the national team came during the Euro 2024 semi-finals against Spain, where France suffered a disappointing defeat. Antoine Griezmann expressed his gratitude to teammates and fans, emphasizing that it was time to make way for a new generation of players.

Griezmann’s legacy will be remembered as one of resilience and excellence, having been a key figure under coach Didier Deschamps since his debut in 2014. He leaves behind a remarkable record and a significant impact on French football.
