EC must allow live coverage of Tuesday’s IPAC meeting – Omane Boamah

The Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to permit live coverage of the upcoming Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 1.

In a post on Facebook on Monday, September 30, Dr. Boamah emphasised that live coverage of the IPAC meeting would foster accountability and allow citizens to stay informed about the discussions and decisions that shape the electoral landscape.

He believes that increased visibility will enhance trust in the electoral process and reassure Ghanaians about the integrity of the upcoming elections.

Dr. Boamah also pointed out that allowing the media to broadcast the meeting live would enable political parties to communicate their positions and concerns directly to the public.

According to him, this openness would promote a more inclusive dialogue among stakeholders, encouraging collaborative efforts to address any issues that may arise.

“In the interest of the general public and Ghanaian voters, following the contestations between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission over the 2024 voters register, the EC must allow the media to provide live coverage of the proceedings at the IPAC meeting.”

“The live broadcast will provide Ghanaians with real-time and unbiased information on the state of the 2024 voters register after the EC’s so-called self-audit or autocorrection of their avoidable (criminal) errors and mistakes.”

“Additionally, this live media coverage will also completely eliminate the possibility of misinformation and misrepresentation after the IPAC meeting,” he posted.
