Cynthia Morrison gives blow-by-blow account of alleged shooting attack at Nyarkrom

Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison has shared details of an alleged attack against her during a campaign on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Reports were that supporters of Agona West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur and Cyntia Morrison encountered each other while campaigning in the same area.

Tensions escalated leading to a clash and alleged shooting attack on Cythia Morrison. Four persons were injured, two of them sustained gunshot wounds.

Speaking on the alleged attack on TV3’s New Day, October 28, the Independent Candidate for Agona West in the upcoming elections did not categorically confirm that the incident was an assassinated attack as it was reported.

According to her, she did not hear any gunshot as she sat close to the window.

The MP who has decided to contest as an Independent Candidate despite winning her seat on the ticket of the NPP explained that during her programme on Sunday, a convoy of Agona West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur used the same area where her campaign activity was ongoing.

“Yesterday evening we went for a programme, within the programme we saw a convoy car coming, I didn’t know this car until it got closer to me then I saw a picture of the Parliamentary Candidate (Chris Arthur) brand on the car so I knew they were passing.

“They passed, instead of them using the left they went straight and there were a lot of people on the road but my concentration was on what I was doing. Almost to the tail end of the programme, the police asked that they put me back inside the car because I was standing in the car then I got inside the car not knowing what was going on then somebody said there was a gunshot.

“I didn’t hear a gunshot because I was close to the window so when I sat in, the police had to organize then we had to disperse,” she narrated.

According to her, on her return, the leader of the NPP Caucus in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin called her and alleged that one of his security men had shot Agona West NPP Constituency Nasara Coordinator, Haruna Rashid while asking her about the situation.

She refuted the allegations and demanded that Afenyo-Markin abreast himself with details from the police before any accusations.

“We didn’t use the normal route that we used then mid-way when I got a call from my leader, Afenyo-Markin asking me what is happening in Swedru, I’m like I’m not in Swedru, I’m on my way to Swedru, what is it?

“He says I hear your security man killed the Nasara Coordinator. I said what are you talking about? How? And he said if it’s not your security then it must be one of them. I said have you been to the scene? Have you spoken to the police then he asked for the Commander’s number then I said I don’t have it.

“I said if you don’t have my commander’s number, stop speaking to me. How do you tell me that my police man has killed someone, there was a heated argument and then I left and came.

“Four people are injured and the police are investigating the issues,” Cynthia Morrison added.
