Parliament is a place for intellectual debate, not a boxing ring – NAPO tells NDC legislators

The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress members of parliament who he said caused commotion in the Legislative House to desist from such behaviour.

NAPO who was addressing student nurses at Pantant Nursing and Midwifery Training School in Accra, condemned the behaviour of his colleague MPs saying ‘Parliament is for sensible people and not for boxers.’

His comment comes on the back of recent brouhaha that occurred in parliament leading to the adjournment of the House.

He bemoaned the NDC MPs’ recent behaviour that seems to block every government business in Parliament.

Dr Prempeh argued that lawmakers have the responsibility of ensuring development for the country, thus “the NDC’s behaviour in stopping every government business is unacceptable.”

He stated that, “policies laid before Parliament that will allow employment of Nurses, teachers, security personnel, mining lease and several others, my colleagues MPs from the minority opposed it.”

He called for decency in Parliament as he bemoaned the conduct of some members who, during proceedings, exhibit tendencies to engage in violence.

According to NAPO, “this show clearly that the NDC has nothing to offer the country and that the NPP is the better option looking at our policies.”

The NPP running mate, who is also the MP for Manhyia South, condemned the NDC’s 24-hour policy.

“The NDC’s plans to promote 24-hour nightclubs are a strong indication that they lack ideas and also don’t have the interest and well-being of the people of Ghana, especially the energetic youth, at heart. Instead of 24-hour nightclubs, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has the country at heart, would rather empower the youth with valuable skills, which would enhance their future,” he explained.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate said the NDCs manifesto simply means all policies by the NPP, which are improving the lives of the people, would be scrapped under an NDC administration.

He pointed out that the NDC’s Resetting Ghana manifesto promise means the cancellation of nurses’ trainee allowance and all other NPP policies meant to better the lives of the people.

“The NDC, from the look of things, doesn’t have the interest of nurses and nursing trainees in the country at heart, so nurses and nursing trainees should vote against the NDC,” he urged.
