W/R: NDC vows to relocate president’s statue to Kyebi

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Director of Communications for the Western Region, Mr. Richard Ted Mensah, has announced that the party plans to repackage and relocate President Akufo-Addo’s statue, currently situated at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, to Kyebi in the Eastern Region, the President’s hometown.

Mr. Mensah explained that the statue has reportedly unsettled some residents of Effia-Nkwanta, with concerns that it is causing more discontent than pride.

He expressed regret that the statue was erected in a dusty area, which he feels diminishes the President’s image, suggesting that the surrounding roads should have been tarred prior to the statue’s installation. According to him, relocating the statue to Kyebi would better honour the President.

“The statue would serve a greater purpose in Kyebi, where it would be more appreciated,” he stated, adding that the next NDC government would not hesitate to make this relocation a priority.

He further noted that, despite the Western Region being the nation’s resource hub, it continues to struggle with poor infrastructure and deteriorating roads, issues he believes require more urgent attention.

Mr. Mensah shared his views in an interview with Mac-Jerry Osei Agyemang on Accra-based Neat FM on Monday.
