Mahama accuses NPP govt of hoodwinking Ghanaians with last-minute cocoa road projects

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of trying to deceive Ghanaians especially those in the cocoa growing areas with last-minute road projects.
Mr Mahama notes that some contractors have been asked to start projects on the roads due to the upcoming general elections.
He also accused the current government of abandoning the cocoa road for the past 8 years.

He urged the people of the cocoa-growing areas not to be decided by the BPP government.

“Cocoa roads are in poor condition because the government neglected the roads, NDC will come and compete it,” Mr. Mahama said in Bodi in the Western North Region.
“They have brought contractors because of the elections in Bodi,” he added.

Earlier, Mr Maham’s spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari also accused the NPP administration of failing to improve roads in cocoa-growing areas as they promised in the 2016 general elections.
Bawah Mogtari noted that roads leading to the Western North region, a cocoa-growing region, are in a terribly deplorable condition.

She made the point that Ghana’s cocoa-growing communities have been short-changed and have gotten poorer under Akufo Addo and Bawumia administrations.

To that end, she has urged Ghanaians to vote for the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.

In a post on her X page, she said “We are in the Western North specifically Ghana’s main cocoa growing region. They are growing cocoa but they are not necessarily part of the whole logistics chain of the industry. The Cocoa Board, Cocoa Research Institute, the Produce Buying Company and other ancillary organizations associated with cocoa growing and production are all located in the Capital City of Ghana. Even the roads leading to the region are in a terribly deplorable condition.

“So when John Mahama proposed to reconstruct and rehabilitate road infrastructure for our Cocoa growing areas it was a very important intervention meant to improve access, improve infrastructure, improve quality of roads and enhance the environment in and around cocoa farming communities.

“But alas our opponents won the 2016 elections, thanks to lies and propaganda and in the last eight years, the NPP has totally failed to deliver on the cocoa roads. After all the failed promises, of 1D1F, one million dollars per constituency etc, Ghana’s Cocoa growing communities have been short changed and have gotten poorer under Akufo Addo and Bawumia. Dear Voters, do well to vote wisely vote for #Change for John Mahama and the NDC so that together we can build the Ghana we want.”
