If mounting statue was yardstick for projects, my statues would ‘ve been all over -Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken a swipe at President Nana Akufo-Addo, suggesting that if statues were built to honour leaders based on their developmental accomplishments, his own would be seen across the nation.

Mr Mahama’s comments come in response to a recently inaugurated statue of President Akufo-Addo, which Mahama described as embarrassing in light of the current administration’s achievements.

Addressing residents in Adjoafua, located in the Bia West Constituency of the Western North Region, Mr00 Mahama voiced his criticism during a campaign tour, accusing Akufo-Addo’s government of seeking accolades without complementary developments across the country.

According to Mahama, if statues were erected in recognition of significant development projects, his likeness would stand at locations such as Tema Port, Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport, Kejetia Market, and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange—sites, University of Ghana Medical School he says are home to his administration’s major projects.

He explained that if statues were yardsticks for projects his would have been all over the country.

Mr Mahama further pointed out that the area where Akufo-Addo’s statue was erected remains underdeveloped, noting that the nearby hospital is unfinished.

He cited additional examples of uncompleted projects under the current administration, including the Takoradi Market Circle and several interchanges and road projects.

The former President’s remarks underscore his criticisms of what he views as limited progress under Akufo-Addo’s leadership, especially in contrast to his own record of completed infrastructure projects across the country.
