Napo honours late President Atta Mills with memorial library in Ekumfi

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has honoured the memory of the late President, H.E. Professor John Evans Atta Mills, by building a Memorial House and Library in his hometown of Ekumfi-Otuam in the Central Region.

The project, now 90% complete, was supervised by Koku Anyidoho, a close aide of the late President and CEO of the Atta Mills Institute.

Situated near the family home of President Mills, the facility is set to be completed and inaugurated shortly.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, known as “Napo,” conducted a final inspection of the project with Central Regional Minister  Justina MaryGold Assan and the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ekumfi, Stelfa Nana Adu Donkor Okumkom.

The Kyedomhemaa of Ekumfi Asaman and Queen Mother of the Odumnaa Family, Nana Eniffua III, expressed her gratitude for the honour shown to their son, thanking both Napo and Anyidoho for their support.

During the ceremony, the family head, Kwabena Biney, voiced disappointment that leading figures of the NDC, including John Dramani Mahama, had not similarly recognized President Mills’ legacy.

Anyidoho echoed this sentiment, commending Dr. Prempeh for his tribute and criticizing the NDC for failing to honour Mills.

He pointed out that he had to lobby President Akufo-Addo’s government to refurbish Asomdwe Park, the late President’s final resting place, and noted that the previous administration under John Mahama had not paid the contractor responsible for constructing the Atta Mills Memorial Library in Cape Coast.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Opoku Prempeh stated that he felt compelled to honour President Mills as a statesman whose contributions to Ghana’s development deserve lasting recognition.

He emphasized the importance of celebrating national heroes and assured the family of his ongoing support, noting that the legacy of President Mills should be studied and protected for future generations.
