Even if you are a flagbearer and your are appointed EC chair, you can’t do anything – Bossman Asare

A Deputy Commissioner at the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of corporate services, Dr Bossman Asare, has allayed fears that the election results will be tampered with by the officials of the commission who are perceived to be politically exposed.

He argues that given the structures at the commission and how the electoral system works, no one can interfere with the process.
“Even if you are a flagbearer, and you are appointed chair there is nothing you can do,” he said in an interview on TV3 on Monday, November 25.

He explained that “all the electoral processes, we go through them with the parties, the parties are expected, by law to bring their agents at the polling centres. During the compilation of the register, all the parties were required to send their agents there.

“Counting of the ballot is also done in the full glare of the media and everyone and so there is nothing anyone can do to influence the outcome of the elections, the parties know this.”
Regarding the special voting, Dr Bossman Asare told all persons partaking in the exercise to endeavour to do so on the designated date because their names will not appear on the voter register during the main elections on December 7.

He reminded them that the Special Voting, which forms part of the conduct of the 2024 general elections, will be held on December 2.

He says 328 voting centres have been designated for this exercise.

Dr Bossman Asare said no constituency will have more than 750 people. Centres with more than that figure have been divided.
“Special voting will take place on December 2 at 328 centres,” he stressed.

He added “If you are a special voter, go and vote on December 2, if you don’t vote on that day, your name will not be on the register on December 7,” he said.

The special voting arrangement is intended to accommodate voters who will be performing election-related duties on the main polling day.

It includes personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department.

Additionally, it includes members of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service, and the National Media Commission.

This early voting ensures that these individuals can exercise their right to vote without conflicting with their professional responsibilities during the elections.

However, the results of the special voting will not be declared until after the general elections.
