Mahama is a spent force, back Bawumia -Napo to Tafo constituents 

Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed former President John Mahama as “a spent force in politics,” suggesting that he cannot be relied upon to provide the solutions Ghana needs.

Addressing a large rally of NPP supporters at Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh argued that Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer for the 2024 elections, failed to deliver a meaningful legacy during his time as President.

The rally saw thousands of NPP supporters filling the streets of Old Tafo Pankrono to hear Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who was visiting the vibrant Constituency, represented in Parliament by Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah. As part of his visit, Dr. Opoku Prempeh stopped by Assafuah 92.7 FM, the Constituency’s first community radio station established by the MP, and officially opened the newly constructed Pankrono Police Station—a symbol of the tangible progress being made in the Constituency under NPP leadership.

Engaging with market women, community leaders, and rally attendees, Dr. Opoku Prempeh underscored Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s progress and driving its development forward. He reminded constituents that Mahama had failed in his previous role as President, particularly due to his management of the nation’s electricity crisis, known as ‘Dumsor,’ which plagued much of his administration.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted Mahama’s controversial policies, such as the cancellation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, decisions that, he argued, only strengthened the perception of Mahama’s incompetence as a leader.




“Any bid from him to become President again must be viewed through the lens of his past administration,” he stated.

On the topic of Ghana’s power challenges, Dr. Opoku Prempeh reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to resolving intermittent power outages.

He claimed the present issues are different from the severe ‘Dumsor’ experienced under Mahama, and he accused the NDC of attempting to sabotage the government’s efforts.

He assured constituents that the NPP would investigate the causes of recent power disruptions.



Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged residents of Old Tafo to vote decisively for Dr. Bawumia and MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah in the December elections, emphasizing that their leadership would bring continued progress and prosperity.

Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo, also spoke at the rally, rallying support for the NPP ticket as the best choice for a bright future for Ghana.
