Claims by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that newly recruited officers for the Ghana Police Service will be sacked by a government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not true.
Presidential candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, who is making the allegations says the NPP has been spreading this falsehood to create disaffection for the party.
According to Mahama, the government is harnessing this assertion to the newly recruit officers because of its record in 2017, where they sacked all new recruits into the security services.
He told constituents of the Sekondi constituency in the Western region Monday, November 25, 2024, that all police and military personnel who were recruited by the NDC in 2016 were sacked by the NPP when they took over, the reason they are assuming same is going to be done to those they have employed.
He assured that the new recruits would be maintained, adding that more persons will be employed into the services to serve the nation.
“There are police recruits at the depot who are about entering the Service and the NPP has been telling to them that we will sack them when we come to power. We want to inform them that it is not true.
“We are not like them. When they came they sacked all the police and military recruitment we had made so that’s why they are thinking like that. We will allow those they have recruited to work and we will also recruit some in addition to serve,” John Mahama stated.
