Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa has said 210,000 temporary officials have been recruited for the 2024 elections.
These officials include; returning officers, to deputy returning officers, presiding officers and polling assistants in all the over 40,900 polling stations across the country.
Jean Mensa in a meeting with security officials ahead of the December 7 elections, noted that these officials are currently undergoing training as aide memories have been introduced to support the officials in their work.
“They are undergoing extensive training for all the categories of staff. This year, we have developed what we call the aide memoires and based on feedback from our officers on the ground and officers from the various election observation missions which are basic instructions on the key aspects of our work,” Jean Mensa said on November 26, 2024.
The Commission added that all-Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) to be sued for the 2024 elections will be put under safe police protection by the end of the weekend.
The EC Chair disclosed that the BVDs have currently been deployed to 8 Regions already.
“It is instructive to note that our biometric verification devices are also being prepared and we are confident that by this weekend all the biometric verification devices will be safely lodged in the police armories across the country.
“As we speak, the BVD’s have been sent to over 8 regional armories and they are in safe keeping there,” she stated.
According to Jean Mensa, the ballot papers for the Northern Region, the Bono and Bono East Regions will be disseminated to the police armories this afternoon, Tuesday November 26, 2024.
All registers have been disseminated to the 16 Regions as well as the ballot papers except ballot papers for the Northern Region, the Bono and Bono East Regions.
Both security officials and the EC Chair have assured Ghanaians of a credible, transparent and peaceful election.
