EC faces fresh criticism from NDC over ballot paper shortfall in Volta Region

With just seven days to Ghana’s crucial general elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) has come under scrutiny following the discovery of a shortfall in ballot papers meant for constituencies in the Volta Region.

This development, highlighted in a letter titled “Shortfall on Ballot Papers” issued by the EC, has drawn sharp criticism from the National Democratic Congres*NDC).

The NDC’s #EagleEyes team led by the Director of Elections and IT, Dr Edward Omane Boamah tasked with monitoring the printing and bagging of the ballots at Act Commercial, has indicated that the issue arose despite the compliance of the printing house with the ballot statistics provided by the EC.

The NDC is therefore urging the Electoral Commission to provide clarity on the root cause of this error, which many believe could have been avoided.

Notably, the Volta Region, a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has faced similar challenges in the election preparation process, raising concerns about the pattern of errors.

Addressing the issue, Dr Boamah stated, “The Electoral Commission must explain to Ghanaians how this shortfall occurred.

That the Volta Region is experiencing such avoidable errors in series is not lost on us.”

In a bid to escalate the matter, the NDC has announced their intention to attend the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting scheduled for 11 am today.

This meeting is expected to focus on addressing the plight of the Volta Region and ensuring transparency and fairness ahead of the December 7 polls.

The EC’s ability to address these concerns promptly will be pivotal in maintaining public confidence in the electoral process during this critical period.
