Greed, selfishness, and arrogance of power caused our defeat – Appiah-Kubi

Andy Appiah-Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the December 7, 2024, general elections to greed, selfishness, and the arrogance of power exhibited by party leaders and ministers of state.

Speaking on The Key Points show with Alfred Ocansey on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Appiah-Kubi offered a scathing critique of his compatriots over the party’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Greed, selfishness, and arrogance of power caused our defeat,” Appiah-Kubi stated emphatically, pointing to a disconnect between party leadership and the grassroots. He suggested that these negative traits alienated voters and undermined the NPP’s credibility.

His comments align with growing frustrations among NPP supporters, many of whom have called for leadership accountability and reforms. Analysts have also noted that the perception of arrogance and self-interest among some party figures eroded public trust, contributing to the NDC’s victory.

Appiah-Kubi’s remarks add to the ongoing introspection within the NPP, as the party grapples with how to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future elections. Calls for unity and reforms have intensified, but his candid critique underscores the depth of dissatisfaction within the party’s ranks.
