Mahama visits Volta Region to begin thank you tour

President John Mahama is expected to visit the Volta Region on Friday to kickstart his thank-you tour across the country following his success in the December polls, the presidency has said.

While it is not his first visit outside the capital Accra, the choice of Volta Region signifies the region as a priority for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

“The Presidency is pleased to announce that President John Dramani Mahama will visit the Volta Region this Friday as the first stop of a planned nationwide Thank You Tour.

“The tour will enable the President to express his sincere appreciation to the people of Ghana for the overwhelming support and trust reposed in him at the 2024 elections,” the president’s acting spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu wrote in part.
On arrival, President Mahama is expected to be welcomed by chiefs, queen mothers, opinion leaders, religious leaders, members of various labour unions, and key representatives from the informal sector.

The overall objective of the presidential visit is to bolster the relationship between the new head of state and the Ghanaian people, the statement observed.

It noted that the lightening speed appointment of ministers of state by President Mahama was a testament to his understanding of the pressing challenges the country faced which need urgent addressing.

The release said the president had “set a historic precedent as the first president in Ghana’s history to announce a full cabinet within two weeks of assuming office”.

It continued: “This swift action exemplifies his dedication to effective governance and his determination to address the pressing issues confronting the Ghanaian.”
