The Anlo Dukor Council has formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to identify the Member of Parliament who allegedly made defamatory remarks against Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings during a heated parliamentary session on February 4, 2025.
In a letter signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu III, the Awadada of Anlo Dukor, the Council expressed outrage over the alleged incident, in which an MP was heard shouting, “Shut up, you daughter of a murderer” during discussions on the approval of vetted ministers.
The remark, reportedly directed at Hon. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, the MP for Klottey-Korle and daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, has sparked widespread concern among the Anlo people and the general public.
Zanetor Rawlings is the eldest child of the late Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana’s former military leader who later transitioned to become a civilian president in the early 1990s. As a key political figure and a descendant of the Anlo people, any attack on her character is seen as an attack on the legacy of her father, who remains a highly influential figure in Ghanaian history.
The petition, addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, emphasized the need to identify the MP responsible for the comment, stating that such language was unacceptable and defamatory.
The Council pointed to two MPs, Hon. Abu Jinapor (MP for Damango) and Hon. Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei (MP for Bosome Freho) as individuals whose names had come up in connection with the remark. However, both have denied any involvement.
Togbi Agbesi Awusu III noted that the Chiefs and people of Anlo Dukor were angered by the development and urged Parliament to act swiftly in uncovering the individual responsible. The Council has requested that the Speaker provide clarity on the matter by February 10, 2025.
