Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei has revealed Ghana’s technical team learned valuable lessons from AFCON’s failure and is committed to making amends in upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The four-time African champions ended their AFCON qualifying campaign at the bottom of Group F with only three points, marking their first absence from the tournament in over a decade.
“As we all know, it was painful not to qualify for AFCON. But we’ve learned from our mistakes on and off the pitch and are hungry to rectify the situation,” Ofei told the GFA media.
Ghana is set to host Chad in Accra before facing Madagascar in Morocco on March 24, as they continue their quest for a place in the 2026 World Cup.
Ofei is confident that the team can bounce back and make amends. “I think we have to look at ourselves first because we have enough quality in the squad to make sure we perform on the day.”
However, Ofei is determined to make a strong impact and restore a sense of pride among Ghanaian fans.
“We want to also make the Ghanaian fans very proud of us, so it’s very important that we give a really good performance against Chad at home. We are going to fight, and it’s going to be a final.”
The Black Stars have a promising opportunity to qualify for the World Cup, and securing victories in their upcoming matches would greatly strengthen their campaign.
