Confrontation with NPP MP: Ralph arrested

Social activist Ralph has reportedly been picked up by the police following his confrontation with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nhyiaeso constituency, Stephen Amoah, at the forecourt of Parliament House.

In a video circulating on social media, Ralph is seen questioning the MP about the poor state of roads and the lack of functioning streetlights in his constituency.

He further asserted that with the Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson, set to present the budget, Hon. Amoah should refrain from interfering.

Shortly after the encounter, Ralph was taken into police custody. Speaking after his arrest, he expressed concerns over the use of state power to silence citizens.

“I’ve always been saying that people actually use the powers we have given them to intimidate us. There is nothing wrong with a citizen questioning the people we put in office about their responsibilities,” Ralph stated.

He further noted that he was unsure of the charges against him, saying, “I don’t know yet. I don’t know yet.”

According to Ralph, the police told him they were acting on a complaint by Hon. Amoah, who allegedly felt “threatened” by the activist’s questions. However, Ralph maintained that his intention was merely to hold public officials accountable.

“The Ghana Police need to do their lawful job by protecting and ensuring that the right things are done. So, I respect that. But unless the Honourable Member of Parliament tells us his reason for calling the police, I don’t understand why asking a question as a citizen would lead to my arrest,” he added.
