Black Stars must work on improving their FIFA ranking – Patrick Boamah

Okaikwei Central MP, Patrick Boamah, has urged the Black Stars to focus on improving their FIFA ranking despite their commanding victories over Chad and Madagascar in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Ranked 77th in the world, Ghana faced a challenging run before the qualifiers, enduring a six-game winless streak during their AFCON campaign.

The team has made a strong comeback, delivering a commanding 5-0 win against Chad on Friday before securing a 3-0 victory over Madagascar on Monday.

These results place Ghana at the top of Group I with 15 points, five ahead of Madagascar.

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, Boamah emphasized the importance of the Black Stars restoring their former glory.

“The Black Stars are ranked 77th on the FIFA ranking, and that is not where we are supposed to be.

“If you know where we as a country want our national team to be, we want our national team to be at the levels that took us to the last eight in 2010. That is where we want our national team to be,” he said.

Ghana will continue their qualifiers in September with key matchups against Chad and Mali, followed by clashes with the Central African Republic and Comoros.
