Laryea Kingston resigns as U-17 fails to qualify for AFCON

Laryea Kingston has resigned as the coach of the Ghana U-17 national team, a decision he reveals was made prior to the start of the WAFU B Championship in Accra.

Kingston announced his resignation on Saturday following Ghana’s 2-1 semifinal loss in the WAFU B Championship, which dashed their hopes of qualifying for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

In a heartfelt post-match press conference, Kingston expressed his disappointment and delivered an emotional resignation speech.

“I have always given my all to the country, both during my playing days, where I represented Ghana from youth to senior level and as a coach,” he said.

He disclosed that his decision to step down was made while the team was in Russia for the U-16 tournament.

His emotional tone underscored the weight of his announcement.

Appointed in April and initially serving as an assistant coach, Kingston led the team for 18 months.

During his tenure, the team displayed some of the best football seen from Ghana’s youth squad, scoring an impressive 54 goals in 18 games.
